I don’t know if it is just coincidence or what, but so many of the scripture passages that have fallen on Monday (my day to blog) in the Chronological reading have been my favorite passages. Perhaps I hadn’t realized that I had so many favorite chapters and verses. Either way, today is no different. Hebrews 11:26 has been, for a few years now, my favorite verse in all of the Bible. It may change in the future, but for this season of life it inspires me to be who God has called me to be. Hebrews 11 is all about the power of a story. God takes all of these stories of His followers from the past and then in 12:1 He uses them to inspire believers today to live in holiness and righteousness.
He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.
God uses Moses example of faithfulness, even in the face of adversity and trials, to inspire me to…
…lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
What about you today? What inspires you to live out Hebrews 12:1? Read the stories represented in chapter 11 and allow them to push you to look at Jesus! Allow the “chapter 13” discipline that God has brought into your life sanctify you to live out a “12:1” kind of life.
